STR 645: Data Editing

STR 645: Data Editing

To edit or not to edit that is the question.

Data from any survey or census requires editing in order to be usable.

Data Editing comprises all those operations in the production of statistical data that are performed to obtain new values for rejected observations.

I prepared the attached lecture material on Data Editing that contains the following:

INTRODUCTION
1. Data Errors
2. Methods of Data Editing
3. Guidelines in Data Editing
4. Imputation

The Census and Survey Processing System (CSPro) is a software package for entering, editing, tabulating, and disseminating data from censuses and surveys. It was developed jointly by the U.S. Census Bureau, Macro International, and Serpro, SA, with major funding from the U.S. Agency for International Development.

CSPro is available at no cost and may be freely distributed. It can be downloaded at www.census.gov/ipc/www/cspro
